On Tuesday 16 October, 9 budding creatives from Christel House School embarked on a star-studded journey into the world of Film & Media.

After a pep talk from guide, Graeme Richards, the day started with an informative tour of Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking in Greenpoint. Big Fish is internationally renowned for producing progressive and responsibly-minded graduates who captivate audiences with authentic storytelling and innovative filmmaking. The morning culminated in a practical workshop with award-winning filmmaker, Hein Ungerer, who gave learners a crash course in live interview techniques. Unfortunately for Bukiwe, the workshop entailed sitting in front of a camera with Graeme!

“I want to thank Graeme and Big Fish for the opportunity to learn about their amazing work.” ∼ Bukiwe, Grade 10

Next, Graeme whisked students off to the Expresso Studios in Sea Point, where he treated them to a VIP tour of all the show’s different sets and departments. From camera operators and production crews to video editors and accountants, students were amazed to learn how many passionate people it takes to produce a TV show. They even caught a glimpse of Jeannie D in Wardrobe & Makeup!

At the end of an exciting day, Graeme insisted on finishing in style …  Q&As on the iconic Expresso balcony!

“It was exciting getting to meet everyone involved in the television industry and find out what happens every day behind the scenes. I enjoyed being on set and experiencing what happens with the camera crew and how much preparation is put in. I met Jeannie D and that was exciting because I’ve always wanted to meet her. I thought about how fun it would be to be a T.V presenter/ personality!”
